Watching the whales

Watching the whales

Onboard our ship – the Andrea – the captain calls out times. “Minkey Whale at 10 O’Clock” and we all rush to see. Sadly the minkys surface infrequently and, with a teasing wave of their tail, sink back into the depths to feed. The Scouts wait in anticipation of the next call from the watcher who spies a pod of white beaked dolphins at 12 O’Clock. The dolphins are a bit more amenable to having their photos taken – they stay close to the surface – following the boat.

As everyone snaps away, we discuss how amazing it is to visit these animals where they live, rather than seeing them in captivity, and agree it’s a fitting way to spend our last full day in this amazing country.
