NEW for 2019! We're proud to announce the launch of our Adventure Trek programme, giving our Cubs, Scouts and Explorers even more opportunities to get out-and-about in the New Year.
Each trek will be the perfect chance for young people to build on their map reading and navigational skills, as well as working towards relevant badges - and of course counting for 1 hikes away for each trek attended. These aren't just walks or hikes. Each trek is the perfect opportunity to really experience what Scouting is all about: being outdoors, with friends, having fun - all whilst surrounded by stunning scenary.
Our first adventure trek is now fully booked!
#1: The Inaugural Adventure Trek: Derwent Walk Country Park
Open to Cubs, Scouts and Explorers
Date: Sunday, 20th January
Length: Approximately 6 miles
Depart HQ: 10am
Arrive back: 4pm
Cost: £5 - covers use of minibus. Any petty cash leftover will be used towards future trips.
Kickstarting it locally! We're heading to Derwent Walk Country Park, in Gateshead, to explore part of the old Derwent Valley Railway. Our intrepid adventurers will be seeking out the ruins of Hollinside Manor, what is now an ancient monument, dating back to the 13th century, and offers picturesque views of the surrounding countryside.
During the trek, there are also a few geocaches to find along the route. Not sure what geocaching is? Click here. We'll be signing the log books as '1st Washington Scouts'.
What do young people need to bring?
- 1 x day bag containing:
- Filled up water bottle
- Packed lunch
- Waterproof Jacket
- Waterproof Trousers
