Disability Awareness

Disability Awareness

We did a fun twist on disability awareness recently. We talked about what the cubs thought a disability was and discussed weather they knew of anyone with a disability and what exactly a disability is, some of them know things like Autism, but no-one mentioned missing limbs, deafness or blindness, these are the ones we will be focusing on over the coming programm.. We talked about some famous people with a disability for example Tom Cruise, Richard Branson, Susan Boyle all have invisible disabilities like Dyslexia, then there are people like Hanna Cockroft, Jessica Applegate,  Darragh McDonald to name a few athletes who were recently in the Invictus games and the Paraolympics. Steven Hawking was one everyone had heard of and they were quite surprised at some of the celebrities with disabilities.

Our first night consisted of Painting using our feet to hold the paint brushes, (very messy) and blindfolded sandwich making (yum), we had planned on making a cup of tea (not with hot water) but we ran out of time.

Here are some of our pics. It was a really fun night and there were actually a couple of pictures that were decent, Fletcher’s effort was very good.
