The cubs had a really good night with the RNLI crew at Sunderland Lifeboat Station. The guys were really helpfull and all the cubs enjoyed the visit. We had a good look at both of the boats they use and the cubs went on-board and had a good look around, Sam (one of the RNLI volunteers) was very helpful and told us what all the equipment was for and how it was used. Theirs is quite a busy station and the oldest in Sunderland, at one time the city had 9 stations but this one is now the only one so they are kept on the go. They do training two nights a week and it happened to be the night for that when we visited so we were lucky enough to be there to see the boats launched, it was quite interesting to watch as they have to get lifted into the water with a type of crane, so the boat and the men is floating in the air above your head before it gets lowered into the water! Hopefully we can do a bit of fundraising for them as they were so helpfull and it is of course a very worthwhile charity. Next week we will be doing Archery and Bowling.
