We had a visit to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Washington with 15 of our cubs today. We had a really good time. We started off the visit with a warden and did pond dipping, I don’t think anyone managed to find anything out of this world but some of the critters certainly looked very alien when we looked at them under the microscope.
After we did pond dipping we went into the Wild Woods and did some Mini Beast hunting. I’ve got to say i’m not a fan of insects and after what we found today, with good reason I think. One of my cubs found the most humongous centipede, it was totally gross. They thought it was great of course. We did a bit of a challenge too to see who could build the biggest tower, it was meant to be out of twigs but they ended up using huge logs and slices of tree too. I think Mathew’s was the tallest.
After the adventure in the woods we went to see the otters, they were beautiful, the female was such a little show off, she was rolling around and playing with the crab claws, so cute. They are trying to get them to make baby otters which would be a lovely addition to WWT Washington. Towards the end of the visit we had about 10 minutes left so we decided to go to the play area. We did have a couple more activities we could have done but we ran out of time, the day went so quickly.
