McLaren Weekend

Scouts and Explorers took part in the McLaren Sheild competition. The McLaren is best described as an interactive story with the Scouts hiking from place to place to complete challenges. The challenges are marked on how well the team complete them by working together. Each challenge is part of the story. This year’s story was based around a school for spies. The scouts diffused bombs that were very realistic looking and built bridges over rivers so they could cross safely. The Sunday saw them released into the field as agents trying to foil the plans of an evil organisation. One incident involved having to control a member of their team who was blindfolded by conveying instructions by two way radio. The only idea they had about where their team member was came from a camera that was broadcasting from their helmet.
One notable participant in the event was a young horse that was delighted by the company he had in his field. He took quite a shine to one of our explorers.
