As camp begins to wind down, today was packed with some of our most challenging and rewarding activities so far.

This morning, the younger Scouts laced up their boots for a hike up Latrigg. It’s one of the smaller peaks around Keswick, but still a great climb with brilliant views at the top.

While they were out on the trail, the older Scouts were dropped off at a secret location for a navigation challenge. Armed with maps and compasses they had to rely on their navigation skills and teamwork to find their way back to Keswick.

Back at base, the younger Scouts took took part in some bushcraft training.

This early evening brought out everyone’s competitive side with our cooking competition. Each patrol planned and prepared a meal from scratch, judged not only on taste but teamwork and presentation too. Some of the recipes were very adventurous considering they were cooked on camping stoves.

There was also time for some creative construction, with Scouts working in teams to build pioneering catapults using poles and rope. Once built, they tested their designs by launching wet sponges across camp.

While that was happening some preferred a quiet moment of strategy with a few rounds of chess. A nice contrast to the chaos of catapults and the cooking competition

One full day left — and we’re making the most of every minute.
