Squirrel Scouts

This past term has been a wonderful adventure for our Squirrel Scouts,
filled with curiosity, creativity, and plenty of moments that reminded
us why these youngest members of the Scouting family bring so much joy
to our community. From the very first session to the final gathering
of the term, the Squirrels embraced every challenge with enthusiasm
and a sense of fun that was infectious.

We started this term with a burst of excitement — quite literally — as
our Squirrel Scouts learned all about Bonfire Night. The group
explored why we celebrate it, talked about staying safe around
fireworks, and then got hands‑on with some themed fun. One of the
highlights was making colourful paper sparklers, which the Squirrels
waved proudly around the room. Their creativity shone just as brightly
as the real sparklers they later had the chance to use under careful
supervision.

On Remembrance day, some of our Squirrels took part in the parade to
the village cenotaph and remembered the bravery of the men and women
from around the Washington area.

🌍 Exploring the World Through Squirrel Eyes

The following week, our Squirrels set off on a different kind of
adventure — a journey around the world without ever leaving the HQ. We
talked about places they’d love to visit, from sunny beaches to snowy
mountains, from famous cities to far‑off countries they’d only heard
about in stories.

It was wonderful to hear their imaginations take flight. Some chose
destinations because of animals they hoped to see. Their ideas sparked
great conversations about different cultures, climates, and landmarks,
helping them see just how big and exciting the world can be.

🎨 A Sticky, Squishy Playdough Adventure

The following week took a wonderfully messy turn as the Squirrels got
stuck into making their very own homemade playdough. Measuring,
mixing, adding food colouring and kneading the ingredients gave them a
chance to explore textures and get hands‑on with a simple bit of
science.

Of course, in true Squirrel style, things got very sticky — but that
only added to the fun. There were floury hands, colourful blobs of
dough, and plenty of laughter as everyone compared their creations. In
Squirrels, we love creating and crafting and by the end of the
session, the room was full of proud little makers showing off their
squishy masterpieces.

The following week was all about movement, teamwork, and big bursts of
energy as the Squirrels worked towards their Be Active badge. Instead
of simply taking part in an obstacle course, they took on the
challenge of designing and building their own.

Once everything was in place, they took turns racing through their
creations — jumping, balancing, and cheering each other on.

🎄 Festive Fun: Decorations, Cards, and Baubles

As we moved into the final two weeks of the programme, the Squirrels
were buzzing with excitement for the festive season. Our meetings
transformed into a cosy workshop of creativity, glitter, and Christmas
cheer.

The Squirrels made their own Christmas decorations, carefully crafting
pieces they couldn’t wait to hang at home. They also created heartfelt
cards for loved ones — each one unique, colourful, and made with love.

They also created beautiful lanterns, carefully cutting and decorating
them so they glowed with festive charm. Watching the Squirrels proudly
show off their finished lanterns was a lovely reminder of how much joy
they find in making things with their own hands.

🎉 A Festive Finale: Christmas Party and Badge Presentation

We wrapped up the term with a joyful Squirrels Christmas party — the
perfect way to celebrate everything the group had achieved. The hall
was full of excitement as the Squirrels played games, shared treats,
and enjoyed the festive atmosphere together. Their energy was
infectious, and it was wonderful to see them having so much fun after
such a busy term of learning and creating.

The highlight of the evening was the badge presentation. One by one,
the Squirrels came forward to receive the badges they had worked so
hard for throughout the term. Their proud smiles said it all. For
some, it was their very first badge; for others, it added to a growing
collection — but for every Squirrel, it was a moment of real
achievement.

Some of our Squirrels even received their Acorn Badge which is the
highest achievement the Squirrels can earn.

It was a heartwarming way to end the term, celebrating not just what
they had done, but who they had become: more confident, more curious,
and more connected as a group. Well done Squirrels we are proud of you 👏👏
