The hype for Black Moss Pot had finally reached fever pitch so we had no choice but to take advantage of the good weather, postpone our annual visit to the big city (Keswick) till the afternoon. Quite a few of the Scouts went straight for the very top and we managed to capture some action camera footage of the whole thing. Mr Lloyd even carried his drone up to get an aerial shot of us jumping in the water. After walking back to Stonethwaite and changing into our uniforms we headed for Keswick. The Scouts had a couple of hours in town buying chips and souvenirs. It also gave Mr Lloyd a chance to grab a nice coffee. Then it was back to camp for the barbecue.
Absolutely the best thing about barbecue night for the Scouts is not having to cook. For the leaders it’s not having to wash up as the Scouts volunteer to do that. We finished our Friday with a huge campfire and hot chocolate with giant marshmallows. Everyone brough some kind of entertainment and we reflected on what we all agreed had been an amazing week. We even learned a new song about a moose that likes juice. Instantly it became our favourite campfire song – and we thought bungalow was the best. No one has any difficulty falling asleep on the last night as we look forward to a speedy get away in the morning. All the leaders agreed that the Scouts helped make this one of the best camps ever because they were keen to try new things and they worked really hard at being clean and well-organised. Lots of badges were earned at the camp too – many of them new badges that came in in the new training scheme. Well done to everyone who helped make this year’s camp one of the best ever.
