It’s now been over a month since ‘face-to-face’ Scouting was paused, as our last meeting took place at the HQ for Monday Beavers on the 16th of March.
“Improvise, adapt, overcome”
We know how important your child’s weekly section meeting can be, even if just for a sense of routine. So within moments of the announcement, wheels were already in motion at a local, district, county, and national level to continue scouting. Our team of adult volunteers have worked together to get systems in place for our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to make this possible.
So what have we been up to over the last few weeks?
Beavers have seen some amazing achievements in their badge work, with many looking to complete the cyclist, gardener, or book readers activity badges. With an upcoming virtual sleepover, badges to work towards, and fun activities to try at home, there’s plenty to keep these Beavers busy.
They even came to the rescue of Joanne, one of our Assistant Beaver Scout Leaders… Check-out this video!
Cubs quickly responded with a bundle of activities to try at home, going on to develop a full ‘badges at home’ programme, which has also seen them take part in the Durham County bug hotel challenge. There’s definitely plenty to get involved with!
Our Scouts held a virtual camp over Easter, earning nights away as part of it as they camp in their own garden, or improvised, makeshift den. We’ve also taken part of in the special edition of Jamboree-On-The-Internet, which took place over the weekend of the 3-5 April. This gives Scouts the opportunity to safely chat with other Scouts from across the world.
Beavers and Scouts have been using group video chats to stay in-touch, taking part in many games and challenges during them, as well as using the opportunity to virtually see each other for a catch-up.
Hopefully it won’t be too long until we can see you all again! Until then, keep up the awesome work & stay safe!
