Why Should You Join Us?
Joining Scouts is one of the best decisions a young person can make.
It’s fun. It’s active. It’s full of adventure, new experiences, and lifelong friendships. And most importantly – it helps young people gain the skills they need to succeed in life.
Scouting isn’t just about badges and tents (though we love those too!). It’s about helping young people:
- Discover who they are
- Build resilience and confidence
- Learn practical and emotional skills
- Make friends and have fun along the way
If you want your child to gain Skills for Life, Scouts is the place to start. Whether you’re 4 or 18, there’s a place for you in Scouts.

Squirrels (Ages 4–6)

- Work and play as part of a team
- Build friendships and independence
- Start discovering the world around them
Cubs (Ages 8–10½)
Cubs take the adventure up a level with more outdoor activities, camping, problem-solving, badgework, and hands-on challenges. Cubs are encouraged to:
- Take on more responsibility
- Try new things (like cooking, hiking or learning first aid)
- Be part of a Pack that supports each other
- Keep building essential life skills
Scouts (Ages 10½–14)
Scouts get the chance to test their limits and go further with their adventures – through camping, climbing, kayaking, survival skills, and community work. It’s all about:
- Building confidence, resilience, and leadership
- Gaining real-life skills that last a lifetime
- Earning badges and working towards top awards

- Plan and run their own activities
- Take part in national and international camps
- Work towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, Young Leader roles, and the King’s Scout Award
- Make a real impact in their communities
Scouting Is in High Demand
Because Scouting is so popular in our area, our district operates a central waiting list to help manage interest across all age groups.
If your child is interested in joining any section, we recommend registering as early as possible.
If your child is close to the age range of the next section considering applying to the older section as it can take some time for a place to become available.
We do our best to offer places as soon as they become available – and we’re always looking for volunteers as that helps us to create more spaces!
