Squirrels are the youngest section in Scouting – for children aged 4 to 6 years old. Every week, they come together to take part in fun activities, make new friends, and begin their journey with Scouts.
It’s all about fun, friendship, and having a go – with plenty of games, stories, crafts, and outdoor adventures.
🌱 Learning Through Play
Squirrel Dreys (that’s what we call a Squirrel group) are full of energy and curiosity! Each session is carefully designed to help young children:
- Try new things
- Explore the world around them
- Learn how to work with others
- Build confidence and independence
Whether they’re painting, planting seeds, building dens, or playing games, Squirrels are always learning through doing.
⭐ Skills for Life Start Here
Squirrels may be small, but they’re developing big skills! From teamwork and communication to problem-solving and kindness, our activities help children:
- Grow their confidence
- Learn how to be helpful and kind
- Begin understanding responsibility
- Discover what it means to be part of a team
They even get to earn their very first badges – and they love it!
🧡 The Squirrel Promise
At Squirrels, we introduce the Scout Promise in a way that’s simple, fun, and meaningful for younger children. The Promise helps them understand what it means to care, respect others, and do their best – values that will guide them as they grow.
There are different versions of the Promise for different faiths and beliefs, so every child can feel included and welcome.
🎒 First Steps on Their Scouting Journey
Joining Squirrels is often a child’s first experience being part of a group outside of home or nursery – and it’s a big, exciting step.
Each week brings new adventures, new things to try, and lots of smiles along the way.
